What an honor to have been selected to paint one of the “Horses of Honor Omaha” horses commemorating the memory of one of Omaha’s fallen police officers. Cushman & Wakefield |The Lund Company is sponsoring my life-size horse which is one of the eight horses in this public art installation to be installed in Mutual of Omaha's Midtown Crossing in Turner Park for one year.
I decided to use a lot of metallic and pearl paints for my horse as well as artist acrylic paints. Kelly S. King, owner of Perfetto Paints, LLC in Omaha donated the desired metallic and pearl paints for use on the horse. My concept was to create a realistic image of the horse honoring Officer Torrey Gully with an abstract design that enhanced the shape of the horse. In addition I coordinated with Mrs. Torry Gully to incorporate interests of Officer Gully as well as a portrait of him. The three hearts placed under his portrait represent his wife and two daughters and they imprinted their thumbprints in paint over the hearts to represent their love for him. The use of the metallic and pearl paints were to give the horse it's glow.
When the year is up, the horses will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Omaha Police foundation which provides safety equipment to the Omaha Police Department.
This horse was purchased by Horseman's Park in Omaha, Nebraska and was on display until 2023 at which time it was donated to the widow of Officer Torrey Gully. It is now permanently installed on Mrs Gully's property.
